DECISION

Approving the Project on sustainable, efficient development of the wood processing industry in 2021 - 2030 period

THE PRIME MINISTER

Pursuant to the Law on Organization of the Government dated June 19, 2015; the Law on Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Organization of the Government and the Law on Organization of Local Administration dated November 22, 2019;

Pursuant to the Law on Forestry dated November 16, 2017;

Pursuant to Decision No. 523/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Vietnam Forestry Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050;

At the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

HEREBY DECIDES:

Article 1. To approve the Project on sustainable, efficient development of the wood processing industry in 2021 - 2030 period (hereinafter referred to as the project), with the following main contents:

I. PERSPECTIVES

1. To develop a sustainable and efficient wood processing industry with the value chain from afforestation, forest exploitation, processing to consumption of forest products; to ensure legal wood for processing and trade of wood and wood products.

2. To develop a high-tech, environmentally friendly wood processing industry, to produce highly-processed products with high added value.

3. The State shall work out mechanisms and policies to encourage all economic sectors to participate in the industry and mobilize all social resources to develop the wood processing industry.

II. TARGETS

1. Overall targets

By 2030, the wood processing industry will become an important economic sector; building and developing a reputable Vietnamese wood product brand in the domestic and international markets; strives for Vietnam to be in the group of leading countries in the world in terms of production, processing and export of wood and wood products.

2. Specific targets

a) The export value of wood and forest products will reach USD 20 billion by 2025, of which the export turnover of wood and wood products will hit over USD 18.5 billion; USD 25 billion by 2030, of which the export turnover of wood and wood products will hit over USD 20.4 billion.

b) The value of wood and wood products for domestic consumption will reach USD 5 billion by 2025 and over USD 6 billion by 2030.

c) Over 80% of wood processing and preservation establishments will reach the level and capacity of advanced production technology.

d) 100% of wood and wood products used for both export and domestic consumption are used from legal wood materials and certified for sustainable forest management.
