DECISION

Promulgating the 2025-2026 School Year Calendar for preschool education, general education, and continuing education

THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING

 

Pursuant to the Education Law dated June 14, 2019;

Pursuant to the Government’s Decree No. 84/2020/ND-CP dated July 17, 2020, detailing a number of articles of the Education Law;

Pursuant to the Government's Decree No. 37/2025/ND-CP dated February 26, 2025, defining functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of Ministry of Education and Training;

At the proposal of the Chief of the Office.

 

DECIDES:

 

Article 1. To promulgate the 2025-2026 School Year Calendar applicable nationwide to preschool education, general education, and continuing education as follows:

1. The earliest school attendance date shall be no more than 01 week prior to the opening ceremony. For Grade 1, Grade 9, and Grade 12, the earliest school attendance date shall be no more than 02 weeks prior to the opening ceremony.

2. The opening ceremony shall be held on September 05, 2025.

3. The first semester shall end before January 18, 2026; the academic program shall be completed and the school year shall end before May 31, 2026.

4. Consideration for recognition of completion of the primary education program and consideration for recognition of graduation from lower secondary education shall be carried out before June 30, 2026.

5. Admission for entry grades shall be completed before July 31, 2026.

6. The 2026 high school graduation examination is expected to take place on June 11 and June 12, 2026.

7. Other national-level examinations shall be organized in accordance with the provisions and guidance provided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Article 2. Principles for developing the school year calendars for localities:

1. The local school year calendars must ensure 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for the first semester and 17 weeks for the second semester).

2. The school year calendars must be suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of each locality.

3. Public holidays and Tet holidays shall be implemented in accordance with the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.

4. Teachers’ annual leave shall be taken during the summer vacation or may be arranged at other times of the year in accordance with the specific characteristics and local school year calendars.

5. The school year calendars must ensure synchronization among educational levels within the same residential area, especially in multi-level general schools.

Article 3. Implementation responsibilities

1. Chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities shall decide on:

a) The school year calendars applicable to preschool education, general education, and continuing education in conformity with the actual conditions of localities.

b) The earliest school attendance date and the extension of the school year, which shall not exceed 02 weeks compared with the provisions in Article 1 of this Decision, in order to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool education, general education, and continuing education programs in cases affected by natural disasters or epidemics; in special cases, a report shall be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

2. Directors of provincial-level Departments of Education and Training shall:

a) Decide on suspension of schooling for students in cases of extreme weather or natural disasters and arrange “make-up” classes; ensure teachers’ leave during the school year.

b) Report to the Ministry of Education and Training on:

- The situation of preparations for the 2025-2026 school year and the organization of the 2025-2026 opening ceremony before September 10, 2025;

- The summary of the implementation of tasks and key solutions of the 2025-2026 school year and the results of implementation of emulation criteria, and propose commendations for the school year before June 25, 2026.

Article 4. This Decision takes effect from the date of its signing.

Article 5. The Chief of the Office, Heads of units affiliated to the Ministry of Education and Training, Chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, and Directors of provincial-level Departments of Education and Training shall implement this Decision./.
